How to Make: Watermelon Lemonade



The last couple of weeks have been hot hot hot and Summer calls for many things as it reaches its peak. Two of them are watermelon and lemonade; there's nothing better than soaking up in the sun with a glass of fresh lemonade in our hand or finishing a light meal with juicy red watermelon. Today I bring a very simple recipe for a drink which is both things mixed into one! A perfect and very refreshing way to celebrate Summertime.


Watermelon Lemonade
Limonada de Melancia


Ingredients:  Ingredientes:
(makes a good sized jug full) (enche um jarro grande)

2 lemons 2 limões
3 watermelon slices 3 fatias de melancia
sugar (preferably non-refined) açúcar q.b. (de preferência não refinado)
fresh water água fresca
opcional: lemon wedges for garnish opcional: rodelas de limão para enfeitar



Remove the seeds and rind of the watermelon and put the fresh watermelon in a bowl or blender. Puree in the blender or use your magic wand (it should get pretty liquid this way, with no further need to pour the puree through a strainer).
Cut your couple of lemons in half and squeeze or juice them.
You should end up with approx. 1 1/2 cup of watermelon puree/juice and 3/4 cup of fresh-squeezed lemon juice. 
Mix both liquids into a pitcher and add the sugar and water, mixing all the ingredients. You can also take a few lemon peels from the squeezed lemons for extra flavour, instead of throwing them out. Place the pitcher in the freezer and serve cold!

Remover as sementes e casca da melancia e colocar a melancia fresca numa tigela. Liquidificar a melancia através do liquidificador ou varinha mágica (em princípio ficará bastante líquida pelo que não será necessário coar).
Cortar os limões ao meio e espremê-los.
Deverá ficar com aprox. 1 1/2 chávena de polpa de melancia e 3/4 chávena de sumo de limão acabado de espremer.
Misturar os dois líquidos no jarro e adicionar o açúcar e a água, mexendo bem todos os ingredientes. Também pode aproveitar algumas das cascas de limão para mais sabor, em vez de as deitar fora. Colocar no frigorífico e servir frio!
